Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 11.53.17 AMFrom Mediaite: Last night, President Obama delivered his first State of the Union of his second term. So, important questions first: how did FOX News react? Mediaite reports, “Immediately following President Obama‘s fourth State of the Union address, Fox News’ panelists reacted in a rather mild fashion, with conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer calling the speech politically ‘effective,’ and others noting the unusual proposals contained therein… Fortune magazine writer Nina Easton added that, despite Krauthammer’s view, Obama ‘posed himself as someone concerned about the debt,’ which is ‘striking’ because a lot of his own Democratic Party members say ‘deficits don’t matter.'” Read more of what they had to say here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 12.03.02 PMFrom Gossip Cop: What did Will Ferrell do last night? Gossip Cop has the answer, and it may surprise you: “Will Ferrell took on a new role on Tuesday — suiting up as a court side usher at the Los Angeles Lakers game. Wearing a red blazer with the name tag ‘Ted Vagina’ and a humorless expression, Ferrell patrolled Staples Center, maintaining law and order. At one point, Ferrell escorted Shaquille O’Neal from the premises as a goof. It’s not entirely clear whether the stunt was for a movie or just for kicks — either way, it wasn’t your typical NBA celebrity sighting.” Read the whole article and see both pictures and videos of Ferrell’s humorous appearance here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 11.55.17 AMFrom Geekosystem: Somebody in Australia stole an emu. Yes, that’s right, an emu. Confused? The emu’s caretakers are, too. Geekosystem reports, “Staff at Australia’s Featherdale Wildlife Park are scratching their heads over the recent theft of one of their emus. How the bird burglars carried a bird the size of a small ostrich over an electrified barbed wire fence in the dead of night while avoiding a guard and security camera is one good question, but there’s an even better one — why would anyone steal an emu in the first place? To steal the large, flightless bird, thieves would have had to break in over a high fence topped with electrified barbed wire, which sounds to us like a little much as far as security for a bird ranch goes.” Read the full story here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 12.04.49 PMFrom Styleite: Keeping you up-to-date on all the puzzle pieces of fashion designer Vittorio Missoni’s mysterious disappearance, Styleite writes on the latest: “More than a month after the small plane carrying Vittorio Missoni, three companions, and two crew members disappeared off the coast of Venezuela, the Missoni chief executive’s bag has been found on the island of Bonaire, located between Los Roques, the archipelago from which the plane took off, and Curaçao, where another bag from onboard the aircraft was discovered on January 28. According to WWD, a Missoni spokeswoman today confirmed that the second bag had been found with a tag identifying it as belonging to Vittorio.” Read more here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 11.57.31 AMFrom SportsGrid: LeBron James keeps setting records. Writes SportsGrid, “LeBron James is an efficient monster. Note: not just a monster. His 30 points, six rebounds and nine assists are nothing new; he’s revolutionized a new normal these days, a heightened mediocrity belonging only to himself. So this isn’t about his gaudy box scores numbers, but his efficiency. For the sixth straight game, LeBron James scored 30 points on at least 60 percent shooting. Last night it was 11 for 15 shooting, including only one turnover. But this is about more than proficient shooting; it’s about seizing of reasoned opportunity – an anti-J.R. Smith platform, of sorts. That is, LeBron James isn’t just making shots. He’s only taking the right shots, and making them with brutal efficiency.” Read more about his night here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 12.06.50 PMFrom The Mary Sue: BBC has released a list of the 100 most powerful women in the U.K., and The Mary Sue is particularly excited about one woman who made the cut: “You’d expect a BBC list of the 100 most powerful women to include crafters of mainstream culture like pop star Adele, internationally bestselling author J.K. Rowling, and, of course, the Queen. But nestled in amongst political figures, business moguls, and Britain’s first openly gay Poet Laureate, there’s a brief description of the career of Siobhan Reddy, a woman who makes video games for a living. Recognition of the power of women as well as the power of games? Naturally, we approve. Reddy is best known as Media Molecule’s co-founder and Studio Director, and, as such, is one of the driving forces behind the LittleBigPlanet series and its ever charming sackperson mascots.” Read more about her here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 12.00.04 PMFrom The Jane Dough: Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. The Jane Dough is reporting on some sad surveys about the holiday. Writes the site, “[A]ccording to the bold, scientific minds at Groupon, over one in ten women desire a Valentine’s Day proposal. After learning yesterday that 87 percent of women would most like a hug or romantic gesture on February 14th, finally we have the other piece of the puzzle: the rest of us just want our men to drop to one knee, pop the big question, and make honest women out of us. And even if you don’t necessarily want to be proposed to, well, Groupon seems to think that you should. The survey is intent on reminding ladies that they’re not getting any younger. ‘[Women] also found that the longer the relationship has lasted, the less romantic it becomes,’ the survey nags.” Read on here.

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 12.09.30 PMFrom The Braiser: Would you be okay with eating horse meat? And if so, how would you want it prepared? The Braiser writes, “While the rest of the world collectively freaked out about the recent revelation that a British beef manufacturer had been secretly adding horse meat to their burger patties, Bloomberg UK had a different question: if one ignores the squick surrounding the thought of eating a beautiful, majestic horse, would it be tasty? To answer this question, they turned to prominent British chefs, whose profession consists of, among other things, eating all of God’s creatures. The verdict: they wouldn’t say “neigh” to eating horse. (We’re sorry we’re not sorry.)” Find out how the chefs said they would serve the meat here.
