Dan Abrams

Dan Abrams is the CEO and Founder of Abrams Media, host of Dan Abrams Live on NewsNation, host of On Patrol: Live on Reelz, Chief Legal Affairs Correspondent for ABC News, and host of SiriusXM radio’s “The Dan Abrams Show: Where Politics Meets The Law.” He is the host and executive producer of “Court Cam” and “Under Oath” on A&E Network and the author of numerous New York Times bestselling books.

Dan has appeared as a guest on all three network late night talk shows, CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, NBC’s The Tonight Show and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as well as “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO.

Formal Education

High school – Riverdale Country School, graduated 1984.

College – Duke University, received his B.A. cum laude in political science in 1988. While at Duke, he anchored newscasts on the student run channel Cable 13 and was Vice President of the student body.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) – Columbia University Law School, graduated 1992.

Has an honorary law degree from Stetson University.

Career Highlights

Dan started his career as a reporter for Court TV where he became well known for his coverage of the OJ Simpson case. He went on to cover many of the highest profile trials of the past few decades, including the International War Crimes Tribunal from The Netherlands, the assisted suicide trials of Dr. Jack Kervorkian from Michigan, Bush v. Gore, and the Scott Peterson murder trial.

After leaving Court TV, Dan became a legal correspondent for NBC. He went on to host MSNBC’s “The Abrams Report” and the acclaimed “Verdict with Dan Abrams.” From 2006 through the end of 2007, Dan served as MSNBC’s General Manager, presiding over a period of unprecedented growth, with ratings and profits each increasing well over 50% during his tenure. During that time, Dan was also a member of the NBC Universal President’s Council.

In 2011, Dan left NBC to become Chief Legal Analyst at ABC where he also served as co-anchor of ABC’s “Nightline.” From 2016 to 2020, Dan hosted the top-rated cable series, “Live PD” on A&E Network.

In 2009 Dan founded Abrams Media which now welcomes over 15 million unique visitors per month. Among its properties are nationally recognized Mediaite.com, which covers the intersection of media and politics; TheMarySue.com, covering “geek culture” from a female perspective; Law&Crime.com and the now widely watched Law&Crime Network, which live streams trials with anchors and in-studio analysis. Law & Crime Network launched its first syndicated show in 2020, Law&Crime Daily, which features discussion of the day’s biggest legal and true crime headlines and is available in over 80 markets around the country. Law&Crime Productions also creates programming for many of the top networks and streaming services.

Author Career

Dan has published several books. Man Down: Proof Beyond A Reasonable Doubt That Women Are Better Cops, Drivers, Gamblers, Spies, World Leaders, Beer Tasters, Hedge Fund Managers, and Just About Everything Else, was a Washington Post bestseller. Lincoln’s Last Trial: The Murder Case That Propelled Him to The Presidency, published in 2018, and Theodore Roosevelt for the Defense: The Courtroom Battle to Save His Legacy, published in 2019, were both New York Times bestsellers. His third book, John Adams Under Fire: The Founding Father’s Fight for Justice in the Boston Massacre Murder Trial was an instant New York Time bestseller after release in March 2020 on the 250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre. Dan’s fourth book, Kennedy’s Avenger Assassination, Conspiracy, and the Forgotten Trial of Jack Ruby, was released on June 1, 2021.
In addition to his books, Dan has published numerous articles in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. He has also been published in The Yale Law and Policy Review, ABCNews.com, Mediaite.com, and many others.

Personal Life

Dan was born in Manhattan, to parents Efrat and Floyd Abrams. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. in political science from Duke University, and got his J.D. from Columbia University Law School. He has one son, Everett Abrams, born June 2012.
