17 May Ev&Em Vineyards Launches Online
Ev&Em Vineyards has officially launched online. The Long Island winery, formerly known as Laurel Lake Vineyards, has officially launched their new website, evandemvineyards.com. Purchased by media entrepreneur Dan Abrams in 2020, the vineyard’s tasting room and wine making facilities have undergone renovations over the past year with the goal of producing the world class wines that Dan and his managing partner Vanessa Price believe Long Island is capable of.
Originally planted to 100% Chardonnay, Ev&Em Vineyards exists on a 40-acre property that over the past four decades has expanded to include a diverse array of classic French varietals for red, rosé, and white wine. With over 20 acres currently under vine, some of Ev&Em’s vines are now 40 years old, providing concentrated and elegant fruit to make some of the finest wines Long Island has to offer.
Ev&Em Vineyards’ wines are released under three different tiers: Reserve Wines, Classic Ev&Em Wines, and ev&em2 Wines.
Reserve Wines are only produced during outstanding vintages, and no effort is spared. These wines are the most powerful expression of the Ev&Em winemaking philosophy. Each Reserve Wine is crafted by utilizing fully ripe, intensely-flavored and structured grapes from Ev&Em’s lots of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, and Merlot. The resulting wines clearly demonstrate the synergy between these noble grapes and the unique soils and climate of Long Island.
Classic Ev&Em Wines are Ev&Em’s flagship wines, representing the consistency and elegance that the most qualitative fruit from the vineyards has to offer. Showcasing the unique terroir of Ev&Em’s vineyards, these wines are an approachable balance of structure and freshness, texture and length, complexity and finesse. The first whites and rosés will be available in the spring of 2022 with the remainder of the wines coming available over the subsequent 18-24 months.
ev&em2 Wines are Ev&Em’s entry collection. The first wines to appear in the Ev&Em tasting room, these wines were chosen from select barrels in the existing winery inventory. Fruit forward, generous, and playful, these wines are as fun as their labels. Ev&Em will continue to offer future bottlings under this label based on style and drinkability.
In addition to their flagship wines, Ev&Em will continue to sell select Laurel Lake wines in the tasting room and online while supplies last.
The Ev&Em Tasting Room is currently open to the general public from 11AM-5PM ET Monday, Thursday, and Friday, and 11AM-6PM Saturday-Sunday. 2021 EV&EM Classic Pinot Gris – Ev&Em’s 2021 Pinot Gris is fresh and fruity, with aromas of honeydew melon and white peach. On the palate, you’ll find a lively and refreshingly firm acidity, bursting with long-lasting flavors of white pear and fresh nectarine peel.
2021 EV&EM Classic Sauvignon Blanc – The vibrant, fruity expression of this Sauvignon Blanc awakens the senses with its bright aromas and crisp, herbaceous flavors of lime and green apple, sharing a lingering dry and clean finish.
2018 ev&em2 Cabernet Sauvignon – A wine with a deep violet hue and overtones of cherry, peppermint, and dark chocolate to the nose. Fresh red currant and subtle mint bursts on the palate, showing excellent body and good length, with a refreshing acidity coming through.
2019 ev&em2 Cabernet Franc – This opaque, substantial wine bursts on the palate with pepper and spice, showing hints of toasted cedar. Intense aromas and a soft, velvety finish leave a well-balanced result.
2019 ev&em2 Gewurztraminer – The 2019 Gewürztraminer is delicious and fruity, bursting with aromas of roses and spice, refreshing on a warm afternoon. The resulting wine is well-balanced, with flavors that unfold in layers and finish with a refreshing hit of citrus and subtle sweetness.
2019 ev&em2 Merlot – This red wine has a velvety, rich, earthy tannins and luxurious notes of black fruit and sage. The nose shows subtle hints of roasted maze and cocoa nib. A complex front palate comprised of maple, blueberry, and eucalyptus leads to a texturally enchanting finish of savory spice and back cherry.
2020 ev&em2 Chardonnay – The vibrant, fruitful expression of this Chardonnay has succulent notes of grapefruit and citrus, with a delightful mineral finish. Each flavor unfolds on the palate in layers, leaving a bright, well-balanced wine.
NV ev&em2 Lightly Chilled Red – Inspired by the light-hearted Beaujolais style, Ev&Em’s Lightly Chilled Red is a bright, refreshing take on Cabernet Franc. Based on the 2018 vintage, which was largely cool and wet, this wine is bursting with raspberry, red cherry, red currant, and cranberries. It’s zippy acidity and lightly crunchy tannin are the perfect combination to wake your palate and invigorate your senses. We suggest serving it with a slight chill. it’s a great way to begin a meal with friends or close an evening by the fire.
