Dan Abrams

Dan Abrams is the CEO and Founder of Abrams Media, Chief Legal Analyst for ABC News, host of On Patrol: Live on Reelz, host of Dan Abrams Live on NewsNation, and host of SiriusXM radio’s “The Dan Abrams Show: Where Politics Meets The Law.” He is the host and executive producer of “Court Cam” on A&E Network and the author of numerous New York Times bestselling books.

Dan has created and sold numerous media businesses including Law&Crime in a reported nine-figure deal. He is also the founder of prominent media and politics site, Mediaite, and proprietor of Ev&Em Vineyards on the North Fork of Long Island.

Dan has appeared as a guest on all three network late night talk shows, CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, NBC’s The Tonight Show and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as well as Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO.

Formal Education

High school – Riverdale Country School, graduated 1984.

College – Duke University, received his B.A. cum laude in political science in 1988. While at Duke, he anchored newscasts on the student run channel Cable 13 and was Vice President of the student body.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) – Columbia University Law School, graduated 1992.

Career Highlights

Dan started his career as a reporter for Court TV where he first became well known for his coverage of the OJ Simpson case. He went on to cover most of the highest profile trials of the past few decades. After leaving Court TV, Dan became the Chief Legal Correspondent for NBC. He went on to host MSNBC’s “The Abrams Report” and the acclaimed “Verdict with Dan Abrams.” From 2006 through the end of 2007, Dan served as MSNBC’s General Manager, presiding over a period of unprecedented growth, with ratings and profits each increasing well over 50% during his tenure. During that time, Dan was also a member of the NBC Universal President’s Council.

In 2011, Dan left NBC to become Chief Legal Analyst at ABC where he also served as co-anchor of ABC’s “Nightline.” From 2016 to 2020, Dan hosted the top-rated cable series, “Live PD” on A&E Network.

Abrams Media

In 2009 Dan founded Abrams Media and has already sold off four of the properties including Law&Crime. He has retained nationally recognized Mediaite.com, which which covers the intersection of media and politics and regularly welcomes over 80 million page views per month. Most recently, Dan created Bottle Raiders. With a proprietary app, events arm, and original video, it is positioning itself to become the largest media property in the fine spirits space.

Author Career

Dan has published several books. Man Down: Proof Beyond A Reasonable Doubt That Women Are Better Cops, Drivers, Gamblers, Spies, World Leaders, Beer Tasters, Hedge Fund Managers, and Just About Everything Else, was a Washington Post bestseller. Lincoln’s Last Trial: The Murder Case That Propelled Him to The Presidency, published in 2018, and Theodore Roosevelt for the Defense: The Courtroom Battle to Save His Legacy, published in 2019, were both New York Times bestsellers. His fourth book, John Adams Under Fire: The Founding Father’s Fight for Justice in the Boston Massacre Murder Trial was an instant New York Time bestseller after release in March 2020 on the 250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre.

 

Dan’s most recent books are Kennedy’s Avenger: Assassination, Conspiracy, and the Forgotten Trial of Jack Ruby and Alabama v. King: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Criminal Trial That Launched the Civil Rights Movement.

 

In addition to his books, Dan has published numerous articles in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. 

Personal Life

Dan was born in Manhattan, to parents Efrat and Floyd Abrams and has one son and one daughter. He named his winery Ev&Em after his kids.
