04 Dec Dan on Eric Garner Grand Jury Decision
Dan joined Robin and GeorgeĀ on Good Morning America, Thursday, December 4th, to discuss the recent grand jury decision regarding the Eric Garner case. No indictment was decided for a New York City police officer who killed Eric Garner, an unarmed African American man, with a chokehold. This decision has sparked major controversy in New York City and the rest of the country as it is on the heels of the Ferguson grand jury decision to not indict another police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed, African American man. Additionally, a person who witnessed the incident took a cellphone video showing Garner saying, “I can’t breath, I can’t breath,”. Says Dan, “As a legal matter, just because it’s not permitted by the NYPD doesn’t necessarily make it a crime…The NYPD is going to do their own investigation here but having that video tape and watching it, there was a stronger case for an indictment here than in Ferguson. There you had conflicting testimony about what happened. Here you had the video tape of what happened and as a result you’re seeing a lot of outrage.” Watch the full clip here.
