18 Sep Dan on ‘Slender Man’ Stabbing Case
Dan discussed the latest on the ‘slender man’ trial on Good Morning America, Monday, September 15th. The case is about two 12-year old girls who stabbed their friend 19 times to please a fantasy character called the “slender man”. One girl has already been declared incompetent to stand trial while the other will be back in court as her attorney is arguing she is also unfit to stand trial. Both girls are charged with first degree intentional homicide. Says Dan, “They can’t assist in their defenses currently. They don’t understand the proceedings. The goal is to cure them so they can go to trial. This is not a resolution of the case in any way, shape, or form…Competency to stand trial relates to their mental state today. Insanity relates to the mental state at the time of the crime, I would expect they would say they didn’t understand right from wrong when this happened. This is where their age comes into play, both of them, at age 12, their lawyers will be saying, not only were they mentally incompetent but look how old they are, they didn’t understand it.” Watch the full clip here.
